The 9th Transportation Unit (TU) is a combined freight hauling and logistics management (asset-based) start-up; focusing on providing Freight Brokerage/dispatching services and regional trucking. Located in Columbia, South Carolina, this LLC was founded 2022 by Army/Navy Veteran and Owner Operator James (JT) Shippy. The 9th Transportation Unit will initially conduct freight hauling and logistics management services throughout the Southern regions; eventually expanding West and Northeast. Using a host of owner-operators with their own trucks, the 9th TU aspires to build a fleet of big rigs and hire talented truckers to drive them.
Owner Operators
For owner operators and truckers who are tired of wasting their time and energy on cheap freight. Let the 9th TU prospect top paying loads while you drive. In addition, we handle the rest of your administrative overhead such as billing, invoice tracking and handling other necessary paperwork. We have multiple dispatch service plans to choose from. Imagine never having to endlessly search load boards or fill out and fax paperwork again. Our ELD system provided by KeepTruckin is easy to use and keeps you complaint with DOT Regulations. Starting December 18th, 2017 Vehicles with a make after year 2000 are required to have and Electronic Logging Device.
Brokering and Dispatching
We specialize in freight dispatching for the trucking industry. Satisfaction is our top priority and we work hard to deliver the best dispatch service in the industry. Our modern technology and knowledge of the transportation industry will give you a competitive advantage: Prioritize dispatches based on customer requirements & shipment specifics Generate delivery orders Review customer’s available credit to identify shipment requirement Cash on Delivery Determine appropriate delivery carriers based on price (Exworks) or customer requirements Ensure appropriate docs are provided (e.g. HazMat) Pre-bill appropriate delivery charges and update shipment notes with same Post-dispatch follow up procedures (including confirmation of pickup by trucker and follow-through to Proof of Delivery (POD)). Requirements For Owner Operators
Must have at least 3 years of CDL Class A experience Need to Have your own truck and trailer (Equipment has to meet certain requirements and pass a technical Inspection) (We can assist with trailer rental in most states) CDL Class A Ability to Pass a drug test Clean Background

We have FTL Loads and LTL Loads for 48ft-53ft Dry Vans, Reefers, Flatbeds and Step Decks. Also have available work for Hotshots and Box Trucks, Specialized and Oversize Freight.
